INTERNATIONAL F-1 STUDENTS

American Language Center is SEVP-certified and authorized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to enroll F-1 international students. This page explains the application process, required financial documents, and how to receive your Form I-20.

Why Study at American Language Center

American Language Center provides intensive English instruction designed to help international students improve their professional, educational, and everyday communication skills in English.

Our program includes:

  • 18 hours of instruction per week in speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, and pronunciation
  • Multiple proficiency levels from pre-beginner to advanced
  • Qualified ESL instructors who meet the school’s academic credentialing standards
  • Preparation for professional communication and daily life in the United States

Students study English in an immersive environment while learning about American culture and communication styles.


Checklist for International Students

  1. Completed Application for Admission
  2. $830 Initial Deposit
    Required for change-of-status and transfer applicants. Students applying for an F-1 visa from outside the United States will pay the initial deposit only after their F-1 visa has been approved and issued.
  3. Copy of the passport identification (biographic) page
  4. Statement of Educational Goals
    Applicants should provide a short explanation of their educational goals and reasons for studying English at American Language Center.
  5. Proof of Financial Support
    Bank statement, bank letter or Bank Account Certification Form showing sufficient funds (see financial requirement below).
  6. If you have a sponsor, please submit: 
    Form I-134 or Certification of Financial Support (Sponsorship Form)

Students are placed into the appropriate level based on a placement test.

Applying from outside the United States
For students who need an initial Form I-20 to apply for an F-1 visa at a U.S. embassy or consulate.

Transfer Students
For students currently studying in the U.S. in F-1 status who want to transfer their SEVIS record to American Language Center.

Certification of Financial Support

F-1 applicants must show sufficient funds for tuition, required fees, and estimated living expenses. Current financial support amounts and sponsorship requirements are listed on the Certification of Financial Support page.
