In compliance with U.S. immigration regulations, F-1 applicants must demonstrate access to sufficient funds to cover tuition, required fees, and estimated living expenses for the duration of their studies.
Current financial support requirements are listed on the Tuition & Fees page. Applicants should anticipate tuition increases in future academic years due to inflation or other institutional cost adjustments.
Sponsors may not be another F-1 student.
ACCEPTABLE FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS
Applicants may submit one or more of the following:
Bank Statement(s) or Bank Letter(s)
- Must be issued within the last three months.
- Must clearly show the account holder’s name.
- Must show the available account balance.
- If funds are held in a foreign currency, the document should include a conversion to U.S. Dollars (USD) or sufficient information to determine the equivalent USD value.
- Multiple accounts may be combined to meet the required financial support amount.
Sponsor Located in the United States
If the applicant is being financially supported by an individual residing in the United States, the sponsor should submit:
- Form I-134, Declaration of Financial Support; and
- Supporting bank statement(s) or bank letter(s).
Sponsor Located Outside the United States
If the applicant is being financially supported by an individual residing outside the United States, the sponsor should submit:
- A completed Certification of Financial Support (Sponsorship Form);
- The form must be signed in the presence of a notary public; and
- Supporting bank statement(s) or bank letter(s).
Bank Account Certification Form
If a bank does not issue letters or statements containing the required information, or if obtaining such documents would cause significant delay, applicants may submit the American Language Center Bank Account Certification Form completed by the financial institution.
DOCUMENTS THAT MAY NOT BE ACCEPTED
The following documents generally do not satisfy financial support requirements:
- Documents older than three months.
- Screenshots that do not clearly identify the account holder.
- Statements that do not show available funds.
- Credit card statements.
- Evidence of employment alone without supporting financial documentation.
- Property ownership documents without evidence of liquid funds.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Tuition and fees are due within seven days of registration unless other financial arrangements have been approved.
F-1 employment is restricted and may require authorization from the Designated School Official (DSO) and/or U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Employment authorization is based on specific eligibility requirements and should not be considered a source of financial support for obtaining an F-1 student visa or Form I-20.
